COOL KIDS DRINKS


Summer creates many challenges for parents; two of them being:
1) How to keep cool?
2) What to do for fun?

If you have a pool, well, then I think you may have them both covered....otherwise....
What do you do to break up the day AND the humidity???

How about these fun drink recipes:

Starting with water.

(Water is boring you say? -or at least that is what your kids say?)

But....
Water is the best thing for kids in the summer and I know that not all kids will drink plain water.

Ideas to help:

Awesome shaped ice cubes. Found in many different shapes, my kids have always loved the idea of having ice cubes in their cup. We have them in ocean shapes and I know that there's other shapes like strawberries.

Flavored water....

Well, with it’s artificial sweeteners, they aren't really the most popular 'healthy' drink for kids because of it's lack of nutritional value, among other things... but don't worry, here’s a list of cool kids drink ideas and recipes which are fun and (for the most part) healthy!

  • Keep the pitcher of water in the fridge (water always tastes better ice cold).
  • Allow your kids to put a splash of fruit juice in their glass of water for flavor.
  • Let them make ice cubes from juice, Kool-Aid, Gatorade or lemonade.

For all you Rachel Ray fans out there (and for your older kids):

Blue-in-the-Face Freeze
2 cups energy replacement drink, such as Gatorade
2 big scoops of lemon sorbet
1 tsp of pure vanilla extract
A handful of blueberries
Blend energy drink and sorbet in blender and then add vanilla. Blend on high until smooth. Pour into a glass and sprinkle blueberries on top.
Watermelon Sodas
3 cups of seedless watermelon chunks
2 cans lemon-lime soda or lemon-lime sparkling water
Place watermelon in blender and puree until smooth. Add a splash of soda if the watermelon won’t smush up well.  Pour watermelon into the glasses filling them up ½ to ¾ full, then fill to the top with lemon lime soda. Add a straw and serve.
